Unfortunately we can't see the full key you are talking about, but the HKCU entries will override the HKLM entries. So look for the same key in HKCU. You will probably have to log off and log back on again for it to take effect.

Take in the registry, it is so easy to trash a machine.

If you need to post registry entries, why not something like this

hklm\

software\

microsoft\

etcUsing regedit i have been trying to change the recycle bin icon?
To change an icon appearance, its right click down to properties. No way should you be going into the registry. The trouble is today, and with sites like this, though people are trying to be helpful there are those who think they can change settings in their computers without understanding computers. Very very dangerous to meddle with registry. You say you know you can do it through display properties, then why are you not keeping to simple solutions? You also say you know how to use the registry, but if you can't do what you are trying to do, then I'm sorry, you don't.Using regedit i have been trying to change the recycle bin icon?
If you do not know how to work in the registry; all technical books and classes suggest you do not work in the registry because you can destroy your machine.

If you have a friend that is technically savvy that can guide you through you might give it a shot but to just change an icon, the work to reformat and reinstall everything might not be worth the effort if you don't get it exactly right, and if you change the wrong key your CPU will go south on you faster than baseball fans in winter.Using regedit i have been trying to change the recycle bin icon?
Please don't even go there unless you know what you are doing.

Here is how to do it.

Make sure you have another icon ready (Location I mean)

Go to your desktop

Right click your mouse anywhere on the desktop

Left click properties

Click desktop tab

Click customize desktop

Here is where you can change the recycle icon to a icon of your choice

I changed mine to %26quot;Oscar the grouch%26quot; lol

I use Microangelo On Display and leave Regedit alone. It's cool to experiment and stuff but why hose your system for a couple of icons?
