How to completely disable windows media player from running in windows xp?

I have restricted users from running windows media player using Group Policy (direct access using double click). but unfortunately the users got smarter trying to use the %26quot;Open with command%26quot; on right click context menu. I have removed the command using Regedit. but the users got even smarter

now the users are using the %26quot;Change%26quot; (file association) button on the Properties Windows (right click context menu - General Tab) and change the association to Internet Explorer and the $$% windows media player is still running !!! suprisingly!!!

My question is how do i disable this function? How to completely disable windows media player from running in windows xp?

You could try uninstalling Windows Media Player so the older version automatically comes on in its place. Windows Media Player 9 is extremely unattractive both visually and in use in comparison to later versionsHow to completely disable windows media player from running in windows xp?
Uninstall it.

But so many portable application can play multimedia file right now and I think just uninstall it does not good choice. Consider to move Vista , there are lot of feature to handle like this.
