I have also tried changing explorer.exe to explorer1.exe in my shell using regedit, and no luck, had the same problem, i have done a deep search for malware and found 6 things and fixed them, using windows malware finder, i have tried everything but i hope one of you guys or girls knows the awnser to this problem, also i do not have any backups or restores, on windows and i have tried installing windows xp, but i get a grey text option which doesnt allow me, also my computer is a Acer Aspire 5515, and i have plenty of ram, and etc, my computer also doesnt search the disk when booting, if someone could help there, that would be sweet if you dont know the awnser to the above, thanks and please only post if you know of something that could help.... I had the same problem when I replaced my motherboard without formatting my boot disk. When you first Validate Windows, Windows logs the hardware installed on the computer at activation, and if a certain amount of it is changed, it will deactivate your copy of Windows. The only way to reactive Windows online is if the original hardware is replaced. Since it sounds like you encountered and error that caused your hardware to not be correctly recognized, you will most likely have to reactivate by phone. When you click Activate Windows, it should give you an option to Activate Phone. It will give you a phone number and a registration number, just call the number and when prompted key in the registration. Then, it will give you a code which you can use to activate Windows without having to connect to the internet.

***IF THAT DOESN'T WORK***

Use explorer.exe to navigate to C:\Windows\System32, and find cmd.exe. If using Vista, Run cmd as an Administrator (right click -%26gt; Run as Administrator). In the command prompt type %26quot;slmgr -rearm%26quot;. Give it a second and then it should prompt you that your computer is rearmed. You will now have full functionality of Windows for 120 days . However it wont be activated. But hopefully at this point you will be able to use the Online Activation method. Hope that helps.Fixing A Windows Error.?
just out of curiosity Wat happens when u try to boot in safe mode? tapping F8 while the computer boots will bring up the boot menu select safe mode ( just in case you didnt know). Also wat came with your Computer a Windows CD or a %26quot;restore%26quot; drive on the computer usually drive D:? IF you did do a re-install its NOT true that you would not lose everything you will lose everything in your %26quot;my documents%26quot; folder since that folder is part of windows what you would need to do is when asked where u want to install windows you would type in something like c:\windows2 and then once u boot into your %26quot;new%26quot; windows search around the C:\Windows Folder and backup all your files and then do a format of the hard drive BUT you said it would not let you do a re-install so how r u trying to re-install? by booting from the xp cd?

This usually happens if you have added / removed significant hardware from your computer.

If this is a legitimate copy of the OS, you can call Microsoft Support and they will walk you through activation.

That, or you can run through the re-install and choose to not reformat.

That will preserve everything, but allow you to re-install with the key again.Fixing A Windows Error.?
