Print Sharing Issue. A win XP comp and Win Vista comp?

I am trying to get my win xp comp to connect and use my printer that is on the network

Going to list my process just in case any of it comes into play on how to fix the final issue

The computer with the printer connected to it is a Vista PC

[url]http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7589_?br>

I followed those instructions and when i put in the \\compname\printername

I get a message

Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords are not allowed, logon hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has been enforced.

On that comp it is trying to connect to the print share option and all the share options are turned on, I have turned on all the share options for now to get it to work.

Turned off user account controls in the user accounts options

the above message comes on if I set no password in the user accounts, and the message

%26quot;bad user name, or password%26quot;

pops up on the other computer when I try to connect when there is a password on the user accounts.

I found these instructions as a fix,

%26quot;I had the same problem. i got this solved. go to run type regedit.exe

then go here HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Ls?br>
change from 1 to 0%26quot;

but I do not have limityblankpassworduse inside my LSA folder on either computer

finally found that fixed it and now I have the printer on the other computer, but still can not print

the documents inside the print queue window are froze

I have tried resetting both comps what do you do when inside the print window

[url]http://s43.photobucket.com/albums?br>
is a pic

I have cancelled it, cancelled all, ect like 15 times on both comps and it just won't go off.

I have ended the task and when it comes back up those 2 errored, stalled prints come up again.

oh and with those 2 in the way I can't print from any computer now

After another rebooting the comp that the printer is connected to that one now prints, but the comp in the other room does not.

When I print from the XP computer it just makes an entry in that printer tray window and does nothing.Print Sharing Issue. A win XP comp and Win Vista comp?
Ok this could be a couple things but lets see if we can get it knocked out fairly easly.

First off the thing about vista is that you have to have user authentication to access its network resources, meaning that whatever user account you login to the xp machine in, has to be created on the vista machine. Also the passwords must be the same AND YOU MUST HAVE A PASSWORD.

This should fix all of your network problemsPrint Sharing Issue. A win XP comp and Win Vista comp?
above answer is wrong. I have a laptop with vista and 2 desktops with XP.

My printer is on one XP.

You must go to: printer and click on properties, click on sharing on all your computer.

If you have a wireless network, one of your pc should pick up your printer and install the printer driver from either the printer CD or from your OS.

hope that will help u

Windows XP registry question?

%26quot;The Registry Editor (regedit.exe) is included with Windows to enable you to view and edit the contents of the Registry. When you open the Registry Editor, you'll see a window divided into two panes. The left side shows a tree with folders (see Structure of the Registry above), and the right side shows the contents (values) of the currently selected folder (key). To expand a certain branch, click on the little plus sign [+] to the left of any folder, or just double-click on the folder.%26quot;

This is what I read in an article.

When I log on to my local m/c, I dont see any structure like this in regedit.exe. Everything I see is a bunch of values in the pair of 2 like %26quot;127C0: 00 00 66 0F B6 44 37 0D 50 FF 15 98 14 00 01 85%26quot;

What shall I understand from this about key and value ? I dont see any folders as mentioned in the article. What is key and what is value ? How to interpret this and how to read these values ?

I have installed different versions of java on my computer and I want to find out which version is in effect currently. Someone told me, I can check it in registry.

If I want to change to previous version, I can do it by changing values in registry. How to change vaues in registry.

thanksWindows XP registry question?
if you installed 2 versions of java and you dont know which one is active, delete one of them and see if the other still works, please leave the reg alone, you will break your pc.Windows XP registry question?
Your questions are too complex for this kind of message board.

Do some research with google first and come back when you have some more specific questions.

AND STAY AWAY FROM THE REGISTRY until you are a bit more clued up..

How do I get rid of the dropdown list from the run command? Start, Run there is a list of recent commands.?

Let me explain: Click on Start, %26amp; then Run. How do I get rid of or clear the list of recent commands I entered (ie. msconfig, regedit)?

In XP Pro there is something called Group Policy. It allows you to prevent access to specific programs, removes access to certain things from the Start menu (Control Panel, Windows Explorer, etc.), prevents changing Internet settings, etc.

Many people will have access to this computer, so I'm trying to prevent/remove access to many functions on the computer to prevent people from not using the computer as intended. But I also want to be able to log in as an Admin %26amp; have a normal computer.

When people click on Start there will not be much there, because I have either prevented access or hidden the Icons. Most people aren't going to know how to undo these changes, unless they know about Group Policy. The only normal way a person might figure it out would be to click on Run %26amp; choose Group Policy from the dropdown list %26amp; undo my changes.How do I get rid of the dropdown list from the run command? Start, Run there is a list of recent commands.?
I don't know if this includes the %26quot;Run%26quot; command, but you can give it a try:

Right-click Start, and choose Properties. Make sure the %26quot;Classic Start menu%26quot; radio button is selected, then click Customize. Click the %26quot;Clear%26quot; button, and I think that should clear your list.How do I get rid of the dropdown list from the run command? Start, Run there is a list of recent commands.?
There are a couple of ways:

You can manually edit the registry (Not recommended)

You can clear your history, by either using the clean history in IE, or in taskbar properties (start menu, customize, CLEAR)

You can download the XP Powertools, specifically TweakUI which will allow you to set it to automatically clear out run history on logout.

Different users shouldnt see your run history though, that is limited to each profile.

Using Windows Aero On Windows Vista Basic?

Hey guys, I heard that with a little tweaking on Windows Vista basic, u can get the Aero feature jus like in Vista other siblings in Premium, Business and Ultimate. anyone know how to do it?

I did try tweaking it my self using regedit then Hkey_Current_User \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ DWM \ then change the value of the entry Composition to 1 and the value of CompositionPolicy to 0 but it didnt work.. any hackers can help out?Using Windows Aero On Windows Vista Basic?
I think its more then just a regedit key entry. You actually need to install the hack that adds some other dll's that you might need.

    You could try uninstalling Windows Media Player so the older version automatically comes on in its place. Windows Media Player 9 is extremely unattractive both visually and in use in comparison to later versionsHow to completely disable windows media player from running in windows xp?
    Uninstall it.

    But so many portable application can play multimedia file right now and I think just uninstall it does not good choice. Consider to move Vista , there are lot of feature to handle like this.

Does anyone know how I can correct this blunder?I Purchased a laptop (garage sale-$50) w/ windows xp. Everything WAS working fine until I changed the user...?
    Hi,

    The simple way to fix this would be to boot into safe mode and use the administrator account to get into the system and fix the problems. If the account you use is the administrator account or if the administrator account is password protected ( it usually isn't ) Then you can download the Trinity rescue kit to a different computer and use that to reset the password to blank or whatever you want. Here is a link to the free download and how to use it

    There are several ways around that, probably the best thing to do considering its a used computer is to just reformat the entire hard drive. This will wipe everything out of it, including the password and reset everything as is to the day it was new. The bad thing is you probably didnt get a reformat/recovery disc with it did you? No big deal, you can usually order them from the manufacturer or maybe even online on ebay or elsewhere.
